I enjoy maths, and did my degree in it, but I was always more interested in the recreational side than the serious stuff. As a teenager I devoured the books of Martin Gardner, and I still find it hard to resist a good book of mathematical diversions or puzzles. But my real passion is numbers. I can spend many hours identifying and exploring number patterns, often using a spreadsheet to do some mass number crunching before looking in more detail at the theory. In this section I’ll share some of my findings.
Reading what other people have discovered can be interesting, but the greatest satisfaction comes from making your own discoveries. I hope something of what write may spark some curiosity in you and prompt you to expand the frontiers of mathematical knowledge.
In this section, the general rule is that Fascinating Facts are ones I’ve plagiarised from someone else, while Interesting Insights are things I’ve found myself (which doesn’t necessarily means no one else had noticed it before).
