I had a mild interest in genealogy until I visited New Register House in Edinburgh. The first thing I did there was look for the death of my great-grandfather, and I discovered it was on the same day that my wife was born. I was immediately hooked. Since then I’ve spent many happy hours searching the internet for births, marriages, deaths, censuses and other records that help give a flavour of our ancestors’ lives.
